Leveled Classroom Library

July Jitters

In the blink of an eye, the school year will be here. Enjoy every moment of your summer! But if you're anything like me, you will feel better once your classroom is up and running.

Organizing and setting up the classroom can feel overwhelming, especially for new teachers. Don't stress about having everything perfect, just focus on a few things that matter.

I like to picture the class from the view of my students and think about the general flow of the room. This is a huge help in setting up. For example, as soon as the students enter, where do they go first? Where do they put their belongings, gather their materials, etc.

When you are ready to tackle the nitty gritty stuff, I would recommend starting with your classroom library. This is one of the most time consuming areas to organize, but once you do, it will be one of the best things you have ready for your students. Books they can easily grab at their reading levels.

Don't have time to tackle this before school starts, no worries, most kindergarteners come in at a level a or aa. You can work on building your library in chunks.  It will come together in due time.

However, if you have family and friends that you can bribe and enlist for the day, order that take out. You can check this giant task off your list by the end of the day and maybe even have time to organize the rest of your books into different categories! :)

Happy Planning!
